So what are some of the options for the average Joe who is going broke? Well one could start a small business but that comes with a significant risk especially if it is brick and mortar. A much better decision would be to find a small niche and go after that niche very aggressively via a web based platform. Now this makes a lot of sense as you certainly have a limited downside risk with a huge upside potential. Naturally you could also buy stocks in e-commerce companies and let them do all the work but, then you would be missing out on all the potential profits of your own small enterprise. Being prudent in these turbulent times would seem to be a wise decision.

There also are tons of get rich programs out there that well may or may not make you rich. Hey you know the gig if it sounds too good to be true especially without proof it most likely is too good to be true. That being said there are very legitimate companies that offer some terrific opportunities but they do require a certain amount of effort and long term commitment to reach any real goals. There are exceptions and the right product in certain MLM’s might be great. I know there is an MLM that offers gas saving pills that seems to be going great guns. It’s probably the exception to the rule however.

Another option which is almost always in favor is the buying and selling of stocks. There are easy ways (mutual funds) and then there are much more difficult but often time’s very rewarding ways by doing research and buying individual stocks. While the potential for large gains is certainly there with the buying of individual stocks so is the potential for large declines. Buy wisely and you should prosper. Will it be easy? No. In most instances that is why mutual fund companies have dozens of behind the scenes individuals doing research so as to avoid the mistakes but, even they don’t pick winners every time.

Short selling is the most aggressive bearish strategy characterized by the highest degree of risk. Used by hedge funds, institutions and retail investors, it has developed into a popular strategy for profiting from market declines. Another strategy for bearish investors entails the use of options.

There is, however, a third and lesser-known bearish strategy that combines stocks and options. Known as a “Hedged Short Sale” or “Synthetic Put,” this strategy simply involves the shorting of a stock and the simultaneous buying of “Protective” call options. In this strategy, you artificially create a security with put-like characteristics and limited risk.

As discussed in the previous article, short selling implies that the investor borrows a specific stock that he or she does not own and sells it in the market at the prevailing price.

Profits arise when the shorted stock declines to a level that covers the transaction fees paid to initiate the strategy. Once at the preferred level, the short seller would buy back the stock and return it to the registered holder.

But as you may recall, the maximum risk of a short selling strategy is unlimited in theory since the stock price has no upper bounds. In reality, however, losses are generally limited by the short seller’s inability to maintain the adequate margin required as the stock rises in price.

In a put option strategy, the maximum risk is limited to the premium paid for establishing the position.

The most significant difference between short selling and put options is the time element involved for the strategy to pan out. Bearish investors often favor short selling because there are no time limits, other than a possible situation when the registered holder calls in the borrowed stock. Short selling has time on its side whereas put options have a limited life.

Given this, for investors favoring short selling, risk can be minimized by initiating a Synthetic Put. This short-term strategy allows the bearish investor to profit when the stock declines to the downside, but at the same time, protects the short position in case the position goes against the short seller.

A Synthetic Put is also desired when a specific put option may not be available.

The use of a call option in a short selling strategy helps to minimize the risk of substantial losses that can arise.

In addition, be aware that should the call option expire prior to the stock moving down to where you want it, you could simply buy another call option to maintain the hedge.

Who uses image hosting?

Even with all the “free web hosting”, low disk space costs, “unlimited” bandwidth, and other freebies, a lot of people just don’t want to manage their own disk space and bandwidth when it comes to hosting images. Many people use auction sites where the primary content is hosted by the auction itself, so if the user wants to add extra images they have to pay fees from the auction site. And some email systems don’t support sending attachments, even if they are zipped. Or maybe the file limit is 1 MB and you have an image that’s 2 MB.

That’s where image hosting comes in. Hosting sites give users the ability to upload images of all kids (some adult, some family friendly - check it out before you use it). The original image gets uploaded to the free image hosting site, which converts it to a thumbnail. The thumbnail is then shown with several link types, usually including:

• hotlinked thumbnail
• direct link
• forum links

The forum links usually come in two flavors. One of them will work depending on the forum or bulletin board software you are using.

How to make money

Charge less! People who are uploading images to eBay pay extra fees for all the images they want to show. If you have dozens, or hundreds of posts, or your a business with thousands of auctions, these fees really add up.

Marketing directly to eBay sellers can provide a user base that is willing to pay fees that are lower than eBay’s fees. If you also provide image features that eBay does not provide, even better! Some users are willing to pay extra for fancy albums, slideshows, and other features that will make their eBay listing more attractive to buyers.

Advertising. The mainstay of classic “free image hosting” is the advertising model. In this model, the free hosting site owner places advertisements around the picture. Ads are clicked on, and the site makes money! It’s not a get-rich-quick scheme, but it will provide a steady income stream once the user base is populated. How do you get set up? You need a hosting provider, advertising partner, and if you can’t build a website yourself, and webmaster.

The 500-pound-gorilla here is Google AdSense. They have so much advertiser inventory they can provide the publisher (you) with contextually relevant ads for almost any traffic in the world. Here’s the catch with image hosting: the traffic is on the lower end of the value range, so to make millions of dollars you need a site with a ton of traffic. But even a site with a moderate amount of traffic can make hundreds of dollars a week - if monetized properly. Once you have your site set up, you define ads in AdSense, place a simple snippet of code in your page, and viola! - ads automatically appear.

What are demo accounts?

Demo accounts are a great tool for learning. These are basically just a real simulator. You use your regular trading platform, except when you make a trade it doesn’t actually get processed. This means it’s a free way to learn to trade. You get a first rate education in learning how to use your trading platform. You can push all the buttons and make all the mistakes you want because you’re not risking any money. You also can test out strategies and see how good you are this point. Do as many trades as you want, until you feel confident enough to trade with your own money.

How Small is too small for trading?

This is a problem that happens to most people. It is only natural when you first start out making real trades to do small ones that result in small profits. Why risk all your money, when you can learn with less risk? The problem you run into is your broker taking a cut. If you hope to gain a few percentage points and the broker takes 1%, than that’s a significant amount of your profit lost. Conversely, if you had a bad trade, you’ll end up losing an extra 1%. What happens now when you add up the numbers is that you are led to believe you’re losing, when you very well could be profiting, if your margins were better.

Just be aware that you’re getting a distorted picture whenever you have small margins. You need to be able to evaluate if you’re doing good, regardless of what the numbers say. If you’re doing good, as you increase the size of your trades and the margins, you’ll notice that you’re making a lot more.
